Mosasaur Tooth with Matrix
Around 60-80 million years ago, during the Campanian and Maastrichtian stages of the Late Cretaceous, mosasaurs ruled the seas. These natural matrixes are not reconstructions, so each is unique.
Mosasaurs were large, extinct marine reptiles belonging to the order Squamata, which includes lizards and snakes. Their first fossils were discovered in a limestone quarry in Maastricht in 1764.
With snakelike bodies, large skulls, and long snouts, mosasaurs had paddle-like limbs, a long, slightly downcurved tail, and over 100 vertebrae. Their skulls resembled modern monitor lizards, and their flexible jaws allowed them to swallow large prey.
Famous for being prehistoric ocean predators, mosasaurs even made it to the big screen—remember the massive beast that devoured the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World? That's it!
